Gromazen R9(グロマゼンR9 Guromazen R 9) is a Mechanical Beast that appears in Episode 3 of Mazinger Z.
Appearance[]
Gromazen R9 has an aqua blue-colored body with a dark gray abdomen, dark gray upper arms, and black pecs. It’s arms are connected to circular shoulders, has blades on it’s forearms, and has rectangular feet with a wide triangular top. Gromazen R9 also has a small mouth grille, two spikes sticking out on each side of the head, yellow blank eyes, and gray octagon-shaped antennas.
Biography[]
Dr. Hell begins destroying most of his Mechanical Beast Army ever since Mazinger Z appeared until Baron Ashura stops him and says they can strike while Kouji is still learning the controls of Mazinger Z. Hearing this, Dr. Hell decides to reconstruct his Mechanical Beast Army. Once seeing that Kouji is still struggling with Mazinger Z’s controls, Baron Ashura sees their chance to attack and Dr. Hell reveals to him/her his latest Mechanical Beast creation, Gromazen R9. Baron Ashura takes Gromazen R9 to the Salude to head to Tokyo and destroy Mazinger Z, but not before Dr. Hell warns to be careful with Gromazen’s R9’s two Ion Rays being shot at the same time. During night time, Baron Ashura gets the Iron Masks to go after Kouji while he/she sends Gromazen R9 to the Photon Light Institute. As Gromazen R9 makes it’s way to the Institute, it starts destroying the city with it’s arms and even fights off the police when they arrive to take it down. Fighter jets than arrive to fight against the Mechanical Beast, but Gromazen R9 easily destroys each one of them with it’s Finger Missiles and it’s Forearm Blades. Once Kouji was able to evade the Iron Masks, he reaches Mazinger Z and makes his way to Gromazen R9 just as the Mechanical Beast starts fighting off tanks with it’s arms. However, Sayaka arrives first with Aphrodite A and Gromazen R9 starts attacking her. Sayaka tries to fight back but since Aphrodite A is still not equipped for battle, Gromazen R9 slices the arms off. Gromazen R9 prepares to finish off Sayaka, but fortunately, Kouji arrives with Mazinger Z and knocks down the Mechanical Beast with Rocket Punch. As Kouji helps Sayaka and Aphrodite A up, Baron Ashura commands Gromazen R9 to fire it’s Ion Rays. Gromazen R9 fires it’s Ion Rays at Mazinger Z but ends up hitting Aphrodite A, melting it from the waist down. Kouji tries to fight back against Gromazen R9, but is still struggling with the controls as the Mechanical Beast kicks Sayaka out of Aphrodite A and prepares to fire it’s Ion Rays once more at Mazinger Z. Sayaka tells Kouji to press one of the buttons before Mazinger Z could get hit by the Ion Rays and he manages to activate a barrier around the super robot. Once the Ion Rays hit the barrier, they reflect back at Gromazen R9, causing the Mechanical Beast to melt down into a hot, molten puddle from it’s own attack.
Powers/Abilities[]
Ion Rays: Gromazen R9 can fire yellow ion rays from it’s two antennas after they glow yellow. The ion rays can melt down any kind of metal. However, if two ion rays are fired at the same time, Gromazen R9 will be unable to fire another directly after.
Adapted Swimming: Gromazen R9 is able to swim through water to reach it’s destination.
Rotatable/Extendable Arms: Gromazen R9 can swing it’s arms around by rotating them at 360 degree angles and can extend them outward to strike it’s targets.
Forearm Blades: Gromazen R9 is equipped with blades on it’s forearms that it can use to slice any targets whenever it swings it’s arms around.
Finger Missiles: Gromazen R9 can launch out it’s finger tips like missiles to blow up it’s targets.
